Top 5 websites to buy grocery online in India

We all have to go to the market to buy groceries and other stuff. One of the main reason we prefer that is, we can do bargaining and check if all the items are in good condition. For some people that is also a reason for an outing. But this is still the traditional way of buying stuff that needs to be changed. As most of the people are working now, they will not get time to buy grocery. So today I am writing an article mentioning top 5 websites to buy grocery online in India. But before that we will see some of the advantages to buy grocery online.

buy grocery online india

Advantages of buying Grocery Online

Your mom will often send you to the market/store to buy groceries and other stuff. So for me, it will be a boon if my family started purchasing grocery online. So the first reason to purchase grocery online is convenience. You just place an order and your order will be delivered at your doorsteps. The next benefit is that it will save a lot of time. In this time, you can do your other important stuff or maybe relax at home. Plus you get to see all the products available in the online store which is not the case with offline purchase. You can never ever guess what all products the offline store is selling until you irritate the shopkeeper. If you ask me, I will pay a bit more rather than go to the offline market/store to purchase what I want. If it’s 2 or 3 things then it’s a different case. I also see many people going to some famous stores like D-Mart where they offer huge discounts on whatever you buy. So I can conclude on this, if you get some discount plus good quality stuff online, then there is no harm in purchasing your groceries online.

Top 5 websites to buy grocery online in India

1. ZopNow

Zopnow has a fullscreen website design with the categories on the left and products on the right. It has small fonts with a bit congested product showcase but because of that, you can see many products on the same page. It has many categories apart from the usual kitchen category like bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, office, pet and cleaning. The most exciting thing to notice is they offer free shipping on all orders with no minimum order criteria. They promise to deliver within 3 hours of order placement depending on the location and availability of the item. The places where they deliver include cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurugram(Gurgaon), Delhi, Mysuru, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, & Noida. They have a funky way of calling the customer as zopper and they offer some online credits called zoppies which you can again use to buy products from their website. You also earn zoppies while you do some shopping and its very similar to a loyalty reward program. They also have a referral program through which you can earn more zoppies when you shop next time. Online payment and cash on delivery are two options for the payment. If you are doing shopping via mobile then they have a app for Android and IOS users to buy grocery online.

2. Askmegrocery

The layout of the website is very clean despite they have a lot of items up for sale. There are various categories like Beverages, grocery & staples, baby care, packaged food, household, bread & dairy, personal care, stationery, cosmetics & pet supplies. On the right, you can see some combo deals & deals of the week. The products are presented in a very neat and clean way with a price tag on the website. They currently deliver in 17 states with different locations. Delivery is free for orders above Rs.499 and if it is less then Rs.40 is charged as a delivery fee. The order is delivered within 6 hours of order placement or you can also choose the order to be delivered in a particular time slot between  09 30 hrs to 18 30 hrs. If I choose my city then I can say they have a great reach in delivering their products to many locations. They accept payments with Debit/Credit cards along with Net banking, Cash on delivery, Sodexo coupons and even card on delivery. Cancellations are accepted for physical products and not perishable items until the order is not shipped.

3. Bazaarcart

Bazaarcart has similar categories as Askmegrocery but they also sell International products, Ramdev Patanjali products, Ayurveda products, clothing and some electronics too. They deliver only in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida & Ghaziabad. They also have Free delivery on order of Rs.500 and above or else they will charge Rs.50. They have a shipping period of 12-24 hrs after the order is placed. You can also tell them to drop your order with your nneighboror gatekeeper. They accept online payments in the form of credit card, debit card, net banking, Paytm, Mobikwik wallet, Cash on delivery, & gift voucher. You can also do a society registration with them to get some exciting offers. I also tried the live chat feature which works great but a bit slow response. Also if you wish to go only for dry product and you stay in Delhi, then you can head over to DilliGrocery too. They offer only one mode of payment i.e. cash on delivery to be safe. Mostly the deal in bulk orders so they have free shipping over Rs.3000. They have app only for Android users.

4. Nature’sBasket

They have a wide range of delivery location coverage in India. You can checkout the complete list on their website. The offline stores are present in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru & Hyderabad. The categories includes International cuisine, Health conscious products, confectionery & patisserie, and other common stuff. Other than that you also have shop by recipe option which is also great. To make things more exciting they conduct various cooking events in their nearest stores. The payment modes include online payment, cash on delivery, card on deliver, Paytm and other wallets too. In most cases they offer Free shipping but if you choose cash on delivery, Rs.40 will be levied as cash handling charges. They promise to deliver your order within 3 hours of order placement(conditions applied). I think this will be the most innovative website of all with events and shop by recipe option. They also have their own mobile app for Android and iOS users.

5. Bigbasket

This website also covers many cities and the list is given on their website. Apart from the usual categories they also offer fresh meat. There is a separate section for the offers they launch. The delivery options include same day delivery and you can also choose time slots. They only charge Rs.20 as delivery fee or if you place an order above Rs.1000 then its a Free delivery. They also have an app for Android and iOS  users. The payment modes include online payment, cash on delivery, Sodexo passes only for food items.

One more benefit of buying from these online store is, they use eco-friendly bags to pack your stuff. So these are some top websites through which you can buy grocery online in India. There are some other websites like Reliance fresh direct, kiranawalla, aaramshop, naturallyyours, Grofers etc. Apart from this you can always search websites that serve your locality. I really think people should buy grocery online or at least should give it a try once. If you have ever done it please share your experience below in the comments section.

How colleges can make good use of Technology

Though we all are living in the 21st century, people are still not using technology to the full extent. Colleges and institutes still practice the traditional ways of accomplishing their work. However, what most of them don’t realise is that using technology can make their job much easier. We had a list of all commerce colleges in Pune and other areas along with some engineering colleges to survey how they used technology to their benefit. The results were not as good as we expected.  So here are some ways in which colleges can make good use of Technology.

Technology education

Use technology in teaching process

I wonder why people still use blackboards in this digital age. Instead of choosing blackboards to write and draw something, a video can be much interesting way of elaborating things. Learning from video or power point presentation can make students much more interested in the concepts and will help them focus for a longer period of time. And the best part of using digital resources is, it can be easily distributed to everyone for future reference. Moreover, it saves time if we compare it with copying notes from the blackboard. Apart from that, the tutor can give live practical examples in the classroom to enhance interaction and boost curiosity.

Embed Tech in various task

Apart from studies college has to carry out various tasks like keeping a record of attendance, or display notice. This all is done manually on paper which again consumes time and paper of course. So to avoid this, open source services like Moodle can be used to manage the different tasks by making a user account for each student. This account can be used to display the track record of the student to parents or may be student themselves. Recording the attendance directly from mobile can help keep a central directory for all the files. Noticeboards can be replaced by digital LCDs or LEDs to spread notices and updates quickly. Managing Library records or railway concessions can be achieved by the same which will give more convenience to everybody and save time. Lastly replacing the traditional ID cards with the new RFID cards can again prove to be useful in integration with the existing system.

Encourage the use of Internet

I have seen many institutes blocking use of the Internet and other devices in the college premises. I can say one thing to all such institutes that Internet is something which you can’t prevent so it’s better you embrace it. Instead of restricting, encourage students to use Internet in every task they perform. Because that is the future they will live in where everything is connected to the grid. Provide them with Internet Lab where they can study more about the subjects and expose them to the vast array of knowledge. By this, I don’t mean that you allow them to misuse it. You can use various software and firewalls to block certain social networking website and other inappropriate websites to increase the productivity.

Make Resources Online

One basic benefit you get when you shift to digital resources is saving paper. Being an engineering student, I know the pain of writing worthless assignments and wasting lot of paper. Instead, students should be made to submit their findings from the practical sessions online on some platform like moodle which I mentioned earlier. Also there are many websites which provide free online courses like Coursera, Udemy, for programming Code Academy etc which can be used by more enthusiastic students. Apart from that, other study materials can be made digital and distributed easily across all students in no time. Making a college app along with website will surely help student to stay in touch with the academics.

So these are some ways in which colleges can embrace the advance technology instead of avoiding it. This will save time, paper, efforts and make the task much more easy. You may argue that using technology will increase the cost, but having a look at engineering and other courses fee I highly doubt that will be an issue. Let me know if you are in favour of using technology in Education sector or not, and if you have your inputs please mention them in the comment section below.

Lenovo A6000 Plus front view

Lenovo A6000 Plus hands on review

After reviewing Lenovo A6000, we now had a hands on experience with its successor i.e. Lenovo A6000 plus. It offers a quite good upgrade in terms of memory with a very less price increment. We also have a dual SIM 4G LTE support at a low budget price level. Lets do a full review of the device and see, what it has got to offer.

Lenovo A6000 Plus hands on review

The device has got a matte rubberised finish at the back which gives it a nice grip and feel. The phone is light to hold in hands with just a weight of 128 g. I liked the way Lenovo has compressed the size of its phone as compared to other brands. The power button, volume rockers are on the left with micro USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack on the top. The dual speaker grill is at the back on the bottom with a Lenovo logo at the centre. The one thing that still needs improvement are the 3 touch capacitive buttons which have no back light support. You can see nothing in the dark, and sometimes it very confusing to use the buttons. This can be the only disadvantage in the device design. It is exactly same as Lenovo A6000.

Front view screen

Front view screen

It has a 5 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (320 dpi). The touch is smooth and the display is bright when compared to Honor 4C. The viewing angles on this device are great giving you full freedom while watching movies and playing games. The quality of display is much better than other phones falling under this price range. However they have made no improvements in terms of screen protection when compared to its predecessor. You might need a tampered glass or scratch guard to keep your display safe.

It comes with a 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 Ghz. The RAM is upgraded from 1 GB to 2 GB so you can multi-task more efficiently. You also get an upgrade in internal memory from 8 GB to 16 GB (10.19 GB available). These upgrades in memory makes this device a tough competitor in this price bracket. There is no change in graphics processor so you still have Adreno 306 GPU. So you can run all the games like Asphalt 8, dead trigger 2, Brothers in arms 3 easily. The phone does gets a little bit warmer while running high end games but that is acceptable. The device has a expandable SD card slot which can support up to 32 GB of memory. I faced no lags while multi-tasking or normal usage. We got a score of 20623 on AnTuTu benchmark test. The overall hardware performance is quite good.

Coming to the software side, it comes with its own VIBE UI which is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. There are few games and apps pre-installed out of which, only some can be removed. I do not like the notification panel as the toggle buttons are congested and small. The theme consist of bright colours which can be sometimes annoying. You can use different launchers as per your choice, as a substitute to Vibe UI.

Camera, Sound and Connectivity

The device boasts a 8 MP auto focus rear camera with flash which can take photos of resolution 3264 x 2448 pixels. The front camera is a 2 MP fixed focus camera which is capable of taking decent selfies. You can also record videos at 720p HD videos with this device. To see some of the snaps of the camera, checkout our last article of Lenovo A6000 as there is no difference in the camera quality of both the phones. The camera is of average quality which can take nice photos and videos in good light conditions.

The device has dual Dolby speakers which can give you decent sound output. Both the speakers are located at the rear bottom of the device. The sound is much more clear when you listen to music using your headphones.

It supports 4G LTE, bluetooth v4.0, WIFI and GPS for connectivity. There is no USB OTG feature in this device so you cannot connect a pen drive. Coming to the last point that is battery backup, the device has a 2300mAh battery which can last for 1 day with normal usage.

If you were going to buy Lenovo A6000, I would suggest you to buy this successor as you get double the RAM and internal storage just by paying Rs.500 extra. Lenovo A6000 Plus is priced at Rs. 7499 and is available on Flipkart in flash sales (REGISTER).  If you have any doubts regarding this device, do post them in the comment section below.

Huawei Honor 4X Full Review

Huawei Honor 4X is a low budget device announced last year which has some great specifications. One of the most astonishing feature of Honor 4X is the back camera. It is capable of taking some very nice HD shots. Lets take a full review and see the specs in detail.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Honor 4X comes in two color white and black with a textured back. This texture gives a nice grip of phone and makes it feel sturdy. At the back we have a Honor Logo printed neatly along with camera on the top left corner. On the right there is power button with volume rockers which i feel is the best position for easy access. 3.5 mm audio jack is on the top with noise cancellation microphone. Speaker grill, microphone and micro USB port are present at the bottom. The three navigation keys does not have backlight support, which can be a issue when you operate the device in dark. The device feels light (weight-170 g) with respect to the size and the weight is uniformly distributed.

Honor 4X has a 5.5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 which is about 267 ppi pixel density. The screen looks decent in terms of pixel density. The touch on this device is fairly responsive, you can try a matte finish screen guard to improve it. There is no Gorilla glass protection so that’s an alarming sign, you better get a anti-fingerprint screen guard on to avoid scratches and fingerprint marks. The screen supports a 10 point multi-touch. Huawei has done average work on the screen but again introducing a decent 5.5 inch phone in this budget is a challenge.

Honor 4X comes with a Quad-core MSM8916 64 bit processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. It has 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB internal storage out of which around 4 GB is user available. It supports up to 32 GB of external storage via memory card. We faced no issues while multitasking and heavy usage due to the huge amount of RAM available. The gaming performance on this device was also great with Adreno 306 GPU processor. We tried playing several games like temple run 2, My daddy was a thief, Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2, Marvel contest of champions, and Modern combat 5 which all worked with no lag even at high graphics. But when we tried playing N.O.V.A. 3, the device failed to run it properly. So you can play most of the games except a very few high end games. The Antutu benchmark score on this device was 20304, while Nenamark 2 calculated a score of 51.9 fps.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Honor 4X comes with Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) running out of the box. There is no news of Lollipop update yet. Huawei has their own Emoticon UI 3.0 (EMUI 3.0) based on KitKat. One thing that I liked about Honor 4x is that, it comes with almost no bloatware (pre-installed apps) that gives you the freedom. Some other features include smart assistance like motion control, One-hand UI, smart cover etc. You can also restrict the data usage for each app separately by going in settings -> Networked Apps.

Below are some screenshots of the Emoticon UI 3.0 giving a whole overview.

The device has a 13 MP rear camera that comes with Sony 2nd generation BSI/OV sensor. With this sensor, the device is able to take some nice snaps even in low light condition. The resolution of the photo is 4208 x 3120 pixels, and auto focusing is quite accurate. The quality of image captured with the camera is quite impressive and you can count on it. The camera app has some additional features like panorama, HDR, Audio note, Best Photo, All-Focus, and Watermark. Coming to video recording, it can record HD videos at 720P.

The front camera is of 5 MP(2592 x 1944) which can be used to capture great selfies. While taking a selfie, the camera app shows a cropped image of face on the top-right corner so that your eyes are on the lens. The only bug that i encountered in Honor 4X camera is that, in certain conditions the auto white balance turned the image yellowish. To solve this problem you can change the white balance from auto to incandescent.  Below are some of the shots captured using Honor 4X camera.

Connectivity and Sound

Honor 4X supports dual SIM and that too both LTE (4G + 4G) so you can enjoy high speed internet. Apart from that you have some common connectivity options like WIFI, Bluetooth v4.0, and GPS. Unfortunately the device does not support USB OTG feature so you cannot connect a USB drive. This is one disappointing thing in Honor 4X as it has low internal storage.

The speakers on the device are located at the bottom with 6 neatly drilled wholes. The Sound on Honor 4X is decent i.e. not too high or too low but the clarity is good. This will enhance your gaming and movie watching experience.

The device has a 3000 mAh non-removable battery which is quite sufficient for a 5.5 inch phone. The battery can last for half day with heavy usage and more than a day with normal usage. You can also use power saving options to conserve battery power. It supports LTE on both SIM and may consume more battery on 4G which is still to be tested.

Warranty and Availability

The device is exclusively available through Flipkart in white and black color variant for Rs. 10,499. The manufacturer warranty for device is 15 months, for battery it is 6 months and for accessories its 3 months. You also get various attractive offers while buying the phone.

Overall the phone is worth a buy at this price range. For the people who want a phone with good camera quality this can be an amazing choice. For others who need more performance you can try other alternatives like MI 4i which is a little higher in terms of price.
