ASUS Zenfone 5Z worth buying?

ASUS is quite famous when it comes to launching phones in the budget segment. But this time they have launched a phone in the range of 30K called as ASUS Zenfone 5Z which has been quite a buzz in the digital market. The phone has a balance of all the features required to give a tough fight to the competitors such as Oneplus and Xiaomi. So let us check if ASUS Zenfone 5Z is worth buying or not.

ASUS Zenfone 5Z worth buying or not?

ASUS Zenfone 5Z has a glass panel on the front as well as back. It has an elegant design and the concentrated circle design on the back which looks premium. The edges on the corners are rounded and the phone is quite good to hold if you just grab the corners. The back however being a glass one is very slippery if you keep it on your lap. The volume rockers & power button are on the right and the dual SIM card tray is on the left. The type C charging/data syncing port, speaker, and 3.5mm audio jack are on the bottom of the device. The fingerprint sensor is on the back with ASUS logo. I would give a 9.5/10 for the design of the device. One of the best phones I have seen in this budget if you consider design.

ASUS has done the best job when it comes to the display of the device. ASUS Zenfone 5Z has a full HD+ LCD IPS+ (2246×1080 resolution) display having screen ratio of 19:9. The quality of display is amazing and it does a great job of color reproduction. You can play around the color temperature settings to set the perfect display temperature that suits you. If the brightness is set to automatic, it sets the color temperature automatically based on the lighting conditions. The LED notification light is on the extreme left corner of ear-piece speaker grill. The bezels are reduce from all the sides and it has a notch on the edge to edge display. There is an option to hide the notch in the settings as every other device. The display is protected with Gorilla glass and does a pretty well job. Tried dropping it from different height like pocket, desk, and dinning table but it managed to protect it everytime. Overall the display is something which you will be impressed to see on ASUS Zenfone 5Z.

ASUS Zenfone 5Z comes with one of the powerful chipsets that is Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. It has an octa-core processor(4 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz & the other 4 clocked at 1.7 GHz). As far as the memory is concerned it comes with different RAM & ROM variants like 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB, & 8GB+256GB. For gaming they have introduced Adreno 630 which can run any game in high graphics. They have AI introduced in almost everything to optimize the features and utilize the hardware in the best possible way. I would say that the phone handles multi-tasking very well and it is capable of running graphics intensive games without any lag. Normal usage experience is amazing as you can keep the apps running in the background without worrying about the performance.

ASUS Zenfone 5Z has Oreo 8.0 out of the box with the new ASUS ZenUI 5. Not many people are fan of the custom ASUS ROM but I feel that it is not that bad to use. Though they might need to revamp the design a bit and go for the modern minimalistic approach for designing the UI. For example the dialer, it is quite old fashioned now and they have kept the design almost same.

ASUS Zenfone 5Z has a Sony flagship IMX363 12MP primary shooter on the back. It has large sensor size 1/2.55″ with F1.8 aperture. One of the core features is the 4 stops optical image stabilization with LED flash support. The secondary lens on the back is of 8MP having a 120 deg wide-angle camera having F2.2 aperture. With AI photography feature added, the ASUS Zenfone 5Z can detect 16 types of different scenes with AI photo learning feature too. As for the default camera modes that ASUS has, it supports real time potrait and beautification. The front camera is of 8MP having F2.0 aperture and 84 deg field of view. As for the recording, one can take 4K UHD video at 60 fps with rear camera, 1080p FHD video recording at 30/60 fps. It has 3-axis EIS for rear cameras. One can record slow-mo videos with 1080p at 240 fps and 720p at 240 fps. Overall the camera on the device is excellent for indoors as it introduces artificial lightning which is better than other smartphones in the range. Outdoor camera quality matches with the competitors but it forms very well indoors. One needs to lower the brightness of the image if you are not looking for too bright images especially indoors. The video recording was good as the OIS & EIS worked great.

Speaker & Connectivity

It has dual speakers with NXP Smart Amp for louder, deeper and less distorted sound effect. The speakers are quite loud and I enjoyed watching movies on the smartphones with its amazing display & sound. Recommended for people who love watching videos/movies on smartphone. It has 3 internal mics for noise cancellation. The speaker grill is located on the bottom of the device which is conventional in terms of design. One of the best features of ASUS Zenfone 5Z is the dual SIM dual standby support. You can use JIO along with other 4G network provider and both 4G services will work simultaneously. Though you can use interent service of only one service provider. One needs to sacrifice one SIM if he/she wishes to extend the memory by using memory card slot. Both SIM cards supported are nano. It has other connectivity options like Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, & NFC too. In terms of security the phone supports face-unlock, fingerprint scanner & other modes of security modes like password/pin. The face unlock worked quite well on this device and so did the fingerprint sensor. You can save upto 5 fingerprint impressions on the device.

The device ASUS Zenfone 5Z has a large 3300 mAh battery pack. Though frankly speaking I feel that the phone could have been optimized to use the battery pack in a much efficient way. It might be possible that the screen is using quite some battery, but I noticed that the camera was consuming the battery rapidly. On a above normal usage that includes 2-3 hrs of video, 3 hrs of music playback using bluetooth earphones and all time WiFi or 4G connectivity, the phone lasted for somewhere more than half a day. But if you are such user, then you need to charge the device once in the middle of the day or at evening. You can make it work for one full day too, it all depends on the usage. One good thing is that it comes with Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 and the phone takes up less amount of time to get the juice in. Also it has AI charging it can schedule it for battery protection. It is said that initially the phone might drain out in a shorter amount of time, but later it optimizes itself to last longer.

The phone comes in two colors – midnight blue(my favorite) & meteor silver. The price for 6GB RAM + 64 GB ROM is Rs.29,999, for 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM is Rs.32,999 and for 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM is around Rs.36,999. The phone is available on Flipkart. Yes I would suggest with all the offers going on from different banks, the phone is definitely worth the price and you can go for it.

Jisoncase Macbook Pouch Sleeve case

Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve review

Buying a device means one also needs to buy the required accessories which might be useful as some feature, or else to protect the device. We all buy casing for our devices to protect it from damages but also to revamp the looks of the gadget. If we talk about case/cover, then leather finish is something I would prefer as it gives a rich feel, formal look, and better grip. Today we have with us Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve for review. Jisoncase is a company which makes gadget case, watch bands, and other accessories/items.

Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve review:

I recently received a Macbook pouch sleeve from Jisoncase for review. Though the size which I ordered was for the older Macbook, it might seem a little big for this model. It was put to test on a daily use and here is my opinion about the same.

The Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve has a leather finish, but the one I received was made of Microfiber premium Leatherette. It is man-made leather and has a finish like natural leather. Due to the man-made thing, it has high tear and tensile strength along with anti-aging properties. Due to this, it can be cleaned easily without any issues. The design of the Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve looks premium due to the leather finish and the color I chose was brown. When you touch the pouch sleeve, you can feel leather like pattern and the stitches are clean & visible. The Macbook easily slides in and fits properly. The touchpad, ports, and the bottom vents are accessible & exposed. Due to the bottom holes the design of the case promotes cooling of the Macbook. Overall the design of the pouch sleeve is well thought of and almost all points are covered while making it. Though it hides the shiny logo of apple on the back, now the Macbook has much better grip with Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve.

The Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve is made of micro fiber PU leather which overcomes limitations of natural leather. This man-made leather has much better tensile strength and high tear strength too. It is meant for rough and tough usage. The stitches on the case are tight and neat with respect to the design. The endurance testing performed while folding the case showed some good results with the PU leather. Overall if we talk about durability then PU leather excels if we compare it to natural leather.

Well how can one talk about features if we are reviewing a normal pouch sleeve. But the Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve is not just a case. It has the normal feature of protecting the Macbook from scratches and to some extent direct hits to the body. It covers the gadget in a good manner safe guarding it from all sides. The additional grip decreases the risk of Macbook slipping out from one’s hand. But apart from the protection, the Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve can transform and lift the Macbook to certain degrees so that typing becomes easier. It acts like a stand so that our hands are placed in the best position for typing on the Macbook. This is the feature which I love the most and is very useful while working for a prolong duration on a desk.

Cost & Availability

Jisoncase Macbook pouch sleeve is available on their website for $29.99 in different colors. One can also go for other quality and different products available on their website. Though the company is from China, I had an excellent experience in receiving the product within 10-12 days to India. Overall the Macbook pouch sleeve is something I would recommend you to go for if you are looking for one such case.

Is Amazon Echo worth buying?

Humans have evolved so fast, especially in the recent times. We have come a long way since the invention of the wheel. From building dams for electricity to internet for building a global village, humans are creating all types of equipment to make lives easier.

One such creation is Amazon Echo. Ever thought of how cool it would be to have a running speaker assistant wherever you are which can answer all your queries, do things and tasks for you like calling someone, set alarms, check weather and update you on news. It is like an assistant who will do as you ask.

You can check this review out to understand the device better, so as to buy it in future. There are some amazing amazon promocode that will not only make you want to order it right away but also help you in saving money without burning a hole in your pocket.

Amazon Echo is a smart speaker with a cylindrical shape, about 5.8-inch-tall and is approximately 2/3 the height of the original version. It has a black cover but also comes in various other colours like grey, walnut or oak finish, or metallic silver finish. On the top of Echo you will find physical buttons to start a voice command, control volume or mute a microphone. The body of Echo is surrounded by a removable fabric cover. You can find a light ring along the border of the upper surface to let users know about the status of Echo.

Amazon Echo is a hands-free smart speaker that works by the control of the person’s voice. On switching it on, it connects to Alexa – a cloud based voice service. Alexa is like your online assistant and you can ask it to do tasks like play music, videos and TV, make phone calls, check weather and news, set alarms, control smart home devices, and much more.

The most amazing feature about Amazon Echo are 360° omnidirectional Bluetooth speakers. With the immersive speaker quality and 7 internal microphones that are installed inside it, these speakers make Amazon Echo way better than any other smart speaker in the league. The sound quality is so brilliant that the room is filled with its amazing voice and will give anyone a feeling as if Alexa is sitting with you in the room and conversing.

Other than its powerful speakers, Echo also boasts of various other cool features. The Echo is getting smarter by the minute, learning and adapting from its environment, adding new set of skills and tricks, with the most amazing features that you won’t believe. Amazon has also recently expanded its ecosystem with the Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, Echo Spot, and Echo Show.

Amazon has also added the Multi-Room Audio feature who was long demanded by customers to be added in Echo speakers. The Alexa App has various echo skills too to make lives easier for its owners. Amazon Echo is like a tech assistant that listens to all your commands and does as is told. It is a great addition for a family as you can set multiple timers and alarms on it. You can also control your smart home by installing echo-adaptive appliances like Philips lights, Nest and Sensi. One can also receive news, weather or traffic updates through Alexa. You can give your shopping list and to-do list and Alexa will check items off the list for you. The best part about Amazon Echo is its association with amazon, which helps make things so easy for its users to be connected with amazon, for online purchases, tracking orders or using Amazon Prime.

These incredible features make Amazon Echo one of the strongest contenders in the smart speakers’ competition. You can get yourself one through various online stores using amazon offers today that will help you save big on the purchase.

It is really easy to use Amazon Echo. You just have to install Amazon Alexa App on your phone and purchase your Amazon Echo. Then you head to settings, set up your device and follow the setup instructions.

First things first, the speaker quality. The sound quality of Amazon Echo is pretty good, as the audio sounds clear and crisp. Amazon has installed a 0.6-inch tweeter and 2.5-inch woofer into the device, which is powered by Dolby. It is this that makes the sound quality so detailed and clear. But at high volumes, you can experience a little distortion. But at this price, it’s a fantastic buy that one shouldn’t miss out on.

Then comes the App, Alexa. The Alexa app is wonderful and very easy to use. Its quick and responsive user interface makes working with Alexa very convenient. Amazon has invested a lot in smart home integration and this can be seen through Alexa as it works great with a number of smart devices than any other voice assistant around. At the skills level, it maintains the same level as other smart speakers. As a result, you can now control some devices directly from the app.

Amazon offers many other options like Echo with different price variations. Echo obviously stands out as it is the medium ranged speaker providing both basic voice assistant support or have a separate stereo and also gives you high-end features like more smart skills and better sound quality. It is a fantastic buy for anyone who is looking for a smart assistant for home control, plus well-amplified, crystal clear audio system. In this price range, it is really the best purchase.

Pros and Cons

There are a great number of pros and cons to Echo that are discussed here. First comes the pros or the good things about Echo. At the price given, it is of excellent value. It is very easy to set up, and has a wonderful voice assistant Alexa who has expandable range of skills that develop day by day. Its clean audio and simple voice control is a breeze to the ears and makes Echo a worthy buy.

One of the features that limits Echo is that the speaker quality could be better. Alexa is great but it is hardly a competition to Google home.

There are a number of mixed review for Amazon Echo that will surely help customers make the right choice. Techradar says that there are a variety of plus points to the latest Amazon Echo (2nd generation), like how the smart speaker is a refreshing update to the Amazon range, its price has dropped and the design has also become very elegant. Additionally, the voice assistant app Alexa gets better and learns new skills with each passing month.

IGN also states that although Amazon Echo’s audio quality isn’t as good as Google Home’s, but the Skills are what really sets it apart. Echo can work with so many devices and services that makes it more versatile for its uses.

TurboFuture also has similar views on Echo’s performance that in the price range given, Echo is one of the best smart speakers and definitely more versatile than other devices.

Today, speakers have long overthrown by smart-speakers. Now we have virtual assistants coming in in the form of small pods that not only help us in our daily tasks, but also keep us updated about news, weather and traffic. Amazon is known to be the best in its league for online shopping store, and now it has successfully expanded to tech sector as well. Echo is one of the best smart speakers in the market and with the audio system quality, and the virtual assistant features as good as that, it’s a hard to miss deal that one should definitely go for. At the price range given, it is a clear winner.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 full review

ASUS is making changes based on the user requirements and finally, they have started launching smartphones with Snapdragon processors and some stock android UI which makes it super snappy. One such device ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 was launched in the market and it was competitively priced. The specifications look promising along with the astonishing design. The model with higher memory competes with Redmi Note 5 pro. Let us check out ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 full review. I have used this device for around 2-3 weeks with gaming, and normal usage too, so here are my thoughts about the same.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 full review:

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a good design with all metal back, a bit of plastic on the top and bottom for the antennas. It has the dual cameras vertically aligned in the corner with ASUS logo in the center. The phone is quite sturdy and the grip is average. You can hold it with no problem as such but it is always better to avoid keeping it on your lap while working. The back of the device manages to attract fingerprint smudges due to which it requires a bit of cleaning every now and then. Still, the matte finish helps to avoid them fingerprints and it is always better than a complete glass back. The phone is rounded on the edges which helps for a good grip and amazing looks on the front too. The button arrangements are pretty standard with power button & volume rockers on the right. Sim card slot on the left with total 3 slots – 2 dual SIM and one dedicated microSD card slot which is a great feature. The micro USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack & speaker are on the bottom of the device. The navigation buttons are on the screen itself. On the back above the logo, you will find the fingerprint scanner. The device weighs about 180g due to the fact that it has a larger battery pack as it is from the PRO series. But the thickness and weight don’t feel much when you hold it in your hands. There is no mention of any screen protection so it is better to have a case and tempered glass. Overall design wise the phone looks just great.

Again one of the strong points of ASUS Zenfone Pro M1 is the 6-inch full HD IPS display. It has the 2.5D curved glass on the edges which makes the phone look premium from the front. The aspect ratio is 18:9 on this device with 450nits brightness so that you can see it in daylight too. Though I feel the brightness could have been increased a little bit. The navigation buttons are on screen so you can always change the position as per your habits. The touch is quite responsive but there is no mention of any specific protection on the screen. In my rough usage, the screen just got a very few minor scratches and nothing much so it can sustain a few falls from pocket height.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with Kryo octa-core processor. It has different variants in memory, the first one comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM while the other comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. It has a Qualcomm Adreno 509 GPU for gaming. You can extend the memory of the phone by inserting microSD card up to 2 TB with the dedicated card slot. The overall performance is snappy as the phone runs on stock Android and this time you don’t get any trace of ZEN UI. The RAM management is also good and ASUS keeps on pushing OTA updates which constantly improves features. Tried playing a few games which did run well and the phone didn’t face heating issues. The back just becomes a bit warm when you play games continuously for quite some time. The device comes with Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box which is completely stock and the experience is just great.

Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a dual camera 13+5 MP on the back and 8 MP on the front. The LED flash is on the back below the rear camera. The primary rear and front camera have a f/2.2 aperture. There is a softlight LED flash on the front too. You can shoot 4K UHD videos with this smartphone and 1080p FHD video at 30/60 fps. The Bokeh effect on the rear camera is decent while the photos from the front camera are not that impressive. Overall the camera quality is decent considering the price point, but there is still a lot of improvement if they want to kill this segment with a smartphone. The video quality is good in daylight but indoors it is normal. Also, they don’t have support for EIS so the videos will be shaky if you are moving while shooting videos.

Sound and connectivity

The sound of the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is good with single speaker(5-magnet) setup. The amplifier used with the speaker is good and thus it produces decent loud music. They have provided a smartphone holder which is magnetic and is meant to boost sound quality and volume. The audio quality is good in earphones too.

The phone comes with almost all common sensors leaving NFC as you will not find it in this range. The device can connect to WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS etc. The main differentiating feature with this device is it supports true 4G that means both the slots will have 4G network if the SIM is 4G enabled. This helps especially the JIO network as it currently is 4G only. So using it as secondary SIM was not an option, but now the life would be much easier with true 4G. The network coverage was average as in some low-coverage network areas I got poor connectivity if compared with other devices. Other places with a full network I didn’t have any problem with the device.

The battery is again a strong point of this device as it is from the ASUS Max series. Zenfone Max Pro M1 has 5000mAh huge battery pack. In spite of the fact that it has this huge battery, the device has a thin form factor and is not that bulky. The battery will last for more than a day if you are an average user, but it may last for a day or less if you are doing heavy gaming. It takes about 90 mins to charge the phone up to 70% and a full charge takes about 2 hrs 45 mins. The charger is a standard 5V 2A 10W charger. ASUS claims it supports fast charging, but considering the time it takes, it tells otherwise. Though I feel that for a 5000mAh battery device the charging time is decent and not too much.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is available on Flipkart for INR 10,999(3GB+32GB) and INR 12,999(4GB+64GB). It is available in Grey and Black color. One needs to buy this device through the flash sales.

One can definitely go for this device, as of now this is one of the best devices under 15000 INR that you can consider buying. For someone going for a slightly better camera can opt for Redmi Note 5 Pro by paying some bucks extra. Zenfone Max Pro M1 will not disappoint you in terms of display, battery, the stock Android experience, and the performance.

SoundBot SB574 Bluetooth portable speaker review

SoundBot a company which specializes in audio devices and car accessories has this amazing speaker called SoundBot SB574. It has a good design and lies in the budget segment. Lightweight portable speaker with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity features. Let us check out SoundBot SB574 Bluetooth portable speaker review. I reviewed this speaker SB574 for over a month and I am sharing my views about it.

SoundBot SB574 Bluetooth portable speaker review:

This is one of the strong points of the SoundBot SB574. It has a design which consists of fabric grill in the front and dark grey wood finish on the body. The design looks astonishing and the build quality of the speaker is good. It looks like a premium portable Bluetooth speaker because of the fabric grill on the front. There are 3 buttons on the top to control volume and music playback. These buttons are a bit of hard to press and not like a soft press experience. On the back of the speaker, you have micro USB charging port, 3.5mm AUX port, and on/off switch. There is a blue LED light to indicate if the speaker is on, playing or waiting for pairing. The dimension of the speaker is 7.7 in. x 2.75 in. x 2 in.

SoundBot SB574 has two 3W speakers and a 6W premium driver. The max volume of the speakers is average that means it is not too loud or too low. The clarity is decent with good amount of bass. The reason for the bass is the passive radiator subwoofer. There is no option to reduce the bass because of which the sound quality is not that clear. People who enjoy good bass will love this speaker for sure. You can connect your smartphones, laptop using Bluetooth or AUX port. You get a small AUX cable with the speaker. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 and is compatible with a majority of smartphones, laptops and other devices. It has a built-in mic to receive calls. Claimed battery backup is around 6 hrs with 75% volume. We tested it at different volume range and it lasted for around 4-6 hrs. It takes around 5 hrs to completely charge the speaker. The battery capacity is 2000 mAh. There is no option to enter pairing mode. Just turn on the speaker and it will appear in the list of the Bluetooth device ready to connect. If it is already connected to some device then you will have to disconnect it and then connect to a new device if you wish to do so. Bluetooth music streaming is good and there is no lag unless you are in the range of Bluetooth speaker. You don’t get a separate charger for charging this speaker though you get a micro USB cable. You can use your regular smartphone charger or connect it to PC/laptop to charge it. One of the flaws which I noticed is that if the speaker is not connected to any device for longer duration then it should turn off saving a lot of battery. But this is one feature that is missing in this speaker. One needs to manually turn off the speaker if you are not using it or else Bluetooth would drain the battery.

The price of the speaker is Rs.1,799 on Amazon. Considering the price range, the design, the specifications I would recommend this portable SoundBot Bluetooth speaker. It is a good grab at this price keeping in mind the premium looks and good bass. Do let me know your thoughts on the review and if you have any doubts then please post them in the comment section below.

PTron Soundrush 1

PTron Soundrush Bluetooth earphones review

In the month of Feb this year, PTron launched a Bluetooth sports earphone called as Soundrush. We got out hands on the earphone and used it for two months to test the capabilities. It has got a sporty look and I got the yellow color model. The Bluetooth earphones are of the low-budget range so keep the expectations accordingly. So let us check out different aspects of PTron Soundrush Bluetooth earphones.

PTron Soundrush bluetooth earphones

PTron Soundrush bluetooth earphones

PTron Soundrush bluetooth earphones review:

Design and build

The build quality of the earphones is good and it is built out of rubber and plastic with a metallic finish. The earphones have a glossy finish on them with matte rubber insulation on the wire. The design is made such that they go over the ears securing them tightly so they don’t come off while you run or jog. After a while, you will forget that you have the earphones on you. The build quality justifies the cost and one can buy them without worrying about this factor.

The earphones go into this Bluetooth button module. It has three buttons on it for play/pause, changing track/volume. The earphones can be used as normal earphones too if the battery runs out by simply plugging out of the aux port of the module. It has a built-in mic to receive calls over bluetooth without using the smartphone. The module has a micro-USB port using which you can charge the earphones. It takes about 2 hrs of time to charge the earphones and lasts for 5-6 hrs for music playback or on call. The review unit which I received was having the problem of low audio output in the left earplug. But this might not be the case for the new piece. The audio from the earphones is loud enough and the quality is ok to considering its price point.

Features & specifications:

    • In-ear sports ergonomic design
    • Advanced audio chipset
    • Stereo quality sound output
    • Bluetooth v4.1
    • Transmission Range: 10m (33ft)
    • Frequency: 20 Hz – 20 kHz
    • Impedance: 32 ohms
    • Mic sensitivity: 110+-3dB
    • Battery capacity: 120 mAh polymer
    • Talk time: Up to 7 hours
    • Charging time: Up to 2 hours
    • Charging port: Micro USB
  • Compatible with any smart phone or tablet

PTron Soundrush earphones are available for Rs. 699 on LatestOne website. It is available in three colors – red, yellow and black. Overall the earphones are good to be used while jogging, running or even normal use. If you have a low budget and still want to try bluetooth earphones then go for this without hesitation.

Google Home Vs Amazon Echo

Amazon Echo vs. Google Home: Which is best for India?

While Smart Home Speakers are still to mature as a fully grown product, they are creating a good buzz around themselves. In India, the market of smart home speakers features only two major players, Amazon and Google. While Amazon entered the Indian Market with its Amazon Echo much earlier, Google has recently unveiled its Google Home in India. So now Indian buyers do have options, but to choose one from these two isn’t an easy task. Both of these have some amazing features while both miss out on some qualities also. So the question is, how should one go about buying a smart speaker? Well, to answer this question, we need to dig deep and find out the pros and cons of each of them.

Amazon Echo vs. Google Home: Which is best for India?

Price and Availability

Indian Market is one of the most price sensitive ones. So, the first thing that everyone would be looking to know is the price comparison. Well, on the price front, both Google, the late entrant, has played smartly and kept the price exactly the same as Amazon Echo. Both Google Home and Amazon Echo cost Rs 9,999. The other versions, Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot also cost INR 4,499 each. However, Amazon has introduced some discounts on its products and one can avail various Amazon coupons as well.

Availability is also not an issue with both. While Google Home is easily available on Flipkart, Amazon Echo can be bought on Both the companies have tied up with offline stores also and you can get these at Croma, Reliance Digital and other offline outlets.

On the design front, Google Home feels much more pleasing to the eye as compared to Amazon Echo although it is also a good one. The top half of Google Home is covered with white plastic, which the bottom half is more round-ish and is covered with fabric. At first instance, it does look like air-freshener or fancy lamp and doesn’t make you feel that it is a highly technical product.

On the other hand, Amazon Echo has a basic cylindrical shape, but it does give a swanky industrial look. Since the design is pretty basic and minimalistic, there isn’t much to talk about. However, this nowhere means that Amazon Echo doesn’t look good.

One more thing to notice is that Amazon Echo has mechanical buttons on the top, while Google Home touch-sensitive buttons. Also, Google Home comes with 4 colored LEDs on the top, which gives it some brownie points when it comes to design. But again, not all the people will love a single design. So both are good looking, but Google Home does a little better on design.

We’ll talk about Google Home first. Since, Android is the most popular OS in the country, using Google Assistant isn’t a tough job to learn. Just say ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Okay Google’, and the speaker wakes up. You can set reminders, play music and do some basic searches on it. If you have Google Chrome cast installed in your house, you can sync both the devices and control chrome cast by voice command only.

Further, Google Home can read aloud the news for you, can even speak the recipes for you, and can also play podcasts. However, one big disappointment with Google Home is that cannot make calls. Despite Google already having the access to calls and contacts in your phone, not being able to make calls through Google Home is certainly dissatisfactory.

On the other hand, Amazon Echo has the assistant named Alexa. It wakes up by just saying ‘Alexa’, which feels more natural and comfortable to say. While Amazon Echo can also do routine tasks like playing music, setting alarms and reading news, but it cannot read aloud recipes or podcasts. However, it can definitely read e-books for you, which definitely compensates the deficit of podcasts. Also, Amazon Echo can make calls for you, which gives it a big plus over Google Home. Moreover, you can do shopping through Amazon Echo, and Track delivery status also, which is another amazing feature.

But more than all this, what gives Amazon Echo a big lead is ‘Skills.’ Amazon allows Alexa to be linked with third-party apps. So which Amazon Echo, you can book a cab on Ola, order food on Zomato and do a whole lot more of things, which Google Home isn’t even close to doing.

Also, Amazon Echo has a feature named ‘Routine’, which does some customized tasks for you on saying a specific phrase. For example, whenever you say ‘Good Morning Alexa’, it can start reading the news for you, remind you all of the meetings for today and can even turn on the lights. You just need to customize it and you can do much more ‘routine’ tasks. So feature-wise, since Amazon is the early mover as it gets a clear advantage over Google Home.

Sound Quality

If you’re looking for sound quality as you get in those JBL speakers, you’re seriously expecting a lot. The music playback on both the speakers isn’t the most impressive one and is more of a pastime rather than some serious entertainment.

However, when it comes to accent, Google has tried to give its assistant an Indian accent, but it fails miserably. The sound output of Google Assistant feels robotic and unnatural, which distorts the comfort. However, Alexa’s accent is much more natural, and it actually feels like talking to someone when you’re using it.

Both of the speakers do not have the support of any Indian language like Hindi, Tamil or Punjabi. However, both of these do recognize proper nouns like ‘atta’ and names of Indian singers and movies, which makes their usage very smooth.

Although, Google Home does better than Amazon Echo in sound output, it struggles to recognize the voice of user while playing music on high volume. One has to nearly shout to make Google Home recognize the voice, which becomes slightly irritating. Amazon Echo has 3.5 mm audio jack support, while Google Home misses out on this feature.

Imagine a device from a multinational internet company is listening and saving everything that you say at your home, sounds a bit strange right? Well, if you are placing a smart speaker in your home, the privacy of your conversations is a big concern.

Amazon Echo records each and every conversation you do with Alexa. All the conversations are converted into an audio file, and stored in your Amazon account. Although this is to improve your future searches, but the fact that everything is getting recorded might feel uncomfortable to some. However, Amazon does give you the option to delete all these recordings also, but that will impact Echo’s performance.

On the other hand, if you want to use Google Home, you’ll have to turn on features like Web & App Activity, Device Information and Voice & Audio Activity, which is definitely going to cause uneasiness to a lot of people. Many people prefer to keep these settings off, and for Google Home, it is mandatory to turn these on. Further, turning on these setting for Google Home also turns them on for Chrome Browser and your phone too, which again a mess. Although, Google has maintained the trust from so many years about data privacy, but being aware of these facts related to privacy is a necessary thing.

So here comes the final call, Amazon Echo or Google Home, which one you should go for? Well, both of them are amazing devices and offer great functionality, but in Indian Context, it seems like Amazon Echo is slightly ahead of Google Home. Amazon has been there in the market for a while and has introduced some worthy changes to make their device better. Many features like making calls, better privacy, and better accent, shopping and routine make it a much smarter device that Google Home, and that is why it wins the race.

However, it must not be forgotten that Google has just entered the market. It is pretty obvious that Google will introduce many improvements to make Google Home a device better than Amazon Echo. So at the moment, Amazon Echo seems like the clear winner. But 6 months down the line, the answer to this question can change.

Edelweiss mobile trader app : Personal Financial Advisor

Stock trading is becoming common to people even the young generation as the information is quite easier to access nowadays. People who have just started to earn are looking for investment options that can give them quick and high-interest rates. Normal investments of fixed deposits or PPF have a longer waiting period and the interest rates are also low. This is where the share market comes in where one can easily buy stocks of companies having high potential. But the stock market has its own share of risks, and this is where you need a financial advisor who can help you out to get better returns.  Unlike old times when people use to rely only on desktop websites for trading, now they are shifting to mobile apps for the same. One of the highest rated trading apps in the app stores is the Edelweiss Mobile Trader (EMT). It is available for both Android and iOS users and one can access the information even without registration.

There are a lot of companies/firms providing information on the website as well as on apps. But one thing that I realized when I entered trading was, it is best if you can do it via mobile app. We can access the information and trade even while we are on the move which is much faster than opening a laptop and doing it. This is where the Edelweiss Mobile Trader is one of the preferred choices as it is based on 3 factors:

  • Speed
  • Stability
  • Simplicity

If you have ever opened a trading website, you will see that there is a lot of information displayed on the page. When you are on a much smaller screen of the mobile device, the key is to organize the information properly. So the app focuses on the crucial things first like showing the Sensex and Nifty on the homepage. They also have this cool “Pull the Bull” feature available across the app to access Sensex, Nifty, USD, and SGX Nifty rates quickly. Along with that, you have the option to search for quote of different companies listed on the market. Lastly, there are three action buttons for market, trade, and watchlist available on the homepage. So the homepage is very clean and has the most crucial things to get you started. Because of the simplicity, any new user who wants to join trading can grasp the basics quite easily and is not bombarded with a lot of information at the start.

You have two side-menus on the app, the left one focusing on free information for anyone who wishes to access it even without registration. And the right one focuses on the registered users and their portfolio. The left menu has options like Market(Equity, Derivatives, and Commodities), research calls, news, charting etc. while the right menu has user dashboard, trade option, funds transfer, order status, portfolio etc. So accessing information is totally free even for unregistered users.

The app has no ads displayed in any section of the application which makes it a preferred choice among users. The data is updated real-time within seconds and has no lags whatsoever even when there is high usage. Edelweiss claims that they have enough server resources available to handle 4 times the regular traffic as they believe that trading is all about speed and timing. Little bit of latency can cause some real financial loss, so it is made to overcome those even in difficult times like when the market opens high or low. The developers have done a great job in showcasing the data in a very organized and structured manner. No matter on which page you are, you always have option of trade available so you don’t miss any deals. Also, trading is just a 3 tap process with minimal crucial options to fill in which makes it a quick task. They have simplified the login too with one step process which takes the identity of your smartphone as the second step without compromising security.

Research Calls

Research calls is one of the excellent features where this app becomes your personal financial advisor and gives you options for making investments or exiting any current trade. So periodically you will have advice from their team regarding short, mid, and long-term investments. Someone who doesn’t know much about trading can use this option to narrow down his research and kick off trading.

One of the best features and the USP of Edelweiss Mobile Trader is charting, where they have shown some excellently detailed charts with loads of information. One can do technical studies with SMA, EMA, volume, super trend etc and draw lines such as trend line, horizontal, vertical and even a Fibonacci Retracement along with marking events such as Bonus, Dividends, Rights, and Splits. You can also save your own template and load it anytime you want to do your enhanced study quickly. This gives anyone great options to study a particular stock and make decisions based on it and also share the charts with others. The charts load quickly and are very smooth to operate and customize. This is one of the best features which you don’t get easily on other apps and that too for free on a mobile app.

Overall the app is just great in terms of features, speed, and UI. One of the main reasons being that the company focuses on user requirements and feedbacks and that is how the app was polished to become one of the #bestTradingApp in the market. Not many apps have high ratings on both Android and iOS, but this app has managed it by giving an equally amazing experience for iOS users too. So don’t wait any longer, give it a shot and start trading now.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 review: Specs, Price and More

A smartphone is not only a phone to us now but it has evolved far beyond that. With the eternal demand of the new from the customers and fierce competition in the market have forced the manufacturers to keep innovating. This resulted in a revolution in this industry and now you can expect the top-end smartphones to pack more punch than your mid-range laptop despite the vast difference in size. The brand new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is an ideal example of this. Read along as we are going to analyze this amazing device in detail and after reading this if you wanna buy it, do not forget to check out these amazing flipkart offers to get a hefty discount.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Roll the clock back a few years and you will find Xiaomi, a very new name struggling to make its mark in Indian smartphone heavily dominated by the likes of Tech giants such as Samsung, Asus, Lenovo etc. But it did not take them long to snatch the top crown with the huge success of its Redmi Note 4 and Note 5. The Redmi Note 4 last year became the most sold device ever in India last year.

Xiaomi is known for packing great specs without breaking and there is everything to be excited about the new Mi Mix 2. Its predecessor, The Mi Mix was one of the very first flagships of Xiaomi and yet it was priced way lower than other phones with similar specs.

The brilliant display is something you must look out for in the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. Also, the powerful camera set up and the processing muscle it has is something that is surely gonna bowl you over.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 display

The display is the arguably the most beautiful display you will find in this range. In the original Mi Mix, Xiaomi had made their intention to keep the design minimal and you can see the trend continued in the Mi Mix 2. The front panel is almost all screen and nothing else. There is a stripe of bezel at the bottom but there is no annoying notch at the top like the iPhone X which many people find super annoying.

The display comes with a 2160X1080 pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The absence of a QHD display at this range is a bit surprising but the display still looks gorgeous at Full HD resolution. Colours are represented almost accurately, though a hint of saturation can be noticed. The screen has a pixel density of about 403 ppi and for a 5.99-inch device, it is pretty decent.

Operating the Mi MIx 2 outdoors is not an issue. The maximum brightness range is pretty high and the ambient light sensor works so well that it will instantly adjust to the conditions as soon as you bring it out in the daylight.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 camera

We could not think of a single valid reason why the Xiaomi did not put dual cameras at the rear end of the Mi Mix 2. Dual cameras and Bokeh effect are in trend nowadays and when even Xiaomi’s budget phones such as the Note 5 has a decent camera set up, it could not get any weirder.

The rear camera is nothing greater than mediocre. You get a 12 mp sensor ( yes, not even 13!). The sensor is made by Sony but still, it is no way impressive. Under broad daylight though, you can take some good looking snaps. The camera also has a 4 axis optical stabilization system and it worked pretty well while taking a picture on the go.

When it comes to taking a picture in a dark environment, the Mi Mix 2 suffers terribly. There are tons of noises in the images and they tend to look a lot darker than they are in reality. The flash also tends to burn the images and as a result, not of much help in low light conditions. The optical stabilization and HDR improves the situation a bit but with these many adversaries, even their effort goes in vain.

The front camera has an ability to shoot 4K videos at 30 fps. This is the only category where the rear camera excelled. Videos looked crisp and once again the stabilization worked like a charm. There is also an option to take slow motion videos but unfortunately, that is limited only to a mere 720p resolution. The maximum frame rate available for the slow-motion mode is 120 frames per second.

The Mi Mix 2 also features a 5 MP front shooter. The camera looked good enough and is able to take some decent selfies. There is also an option to beautify your images with as much as 36 profiles available. The front shooter is also capable of recording videos at 1080p to help with your video calling needs.

The big issue is, however, the positioning of the camera. While trying to keep the bezel minimum at the top, Xiaomi was forced to place the camera at the bottom of the camera and it is a huge hit and miss. You are most likely to smudge or cover the camera when using the phone with your right hand and also be prepared for a strange video call experience thanks to the awkward positioning.

Build quality, body and design of the Mi Mix 2

The best thing that has changed in the Mi Mix 2 is the size and aspect ratio. By changing the aspect ratio, Xiaomi has made the device a little taller but way slimmer in width. That makes this device easy to hold and operate in one hand.

The look of the device is absolutely premium and there is no way that you wouldn’t stop and say wow when you see this device for the first time. The whole body is built with aerospace industry standard ceramic giving it a unmatched strength and reliability. You would expect a total ceramic body to slip easily but surprisingly this not the case with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

The use of ceramic, however, makes this device a little heavy and it may take a day or two before you get habituated with it. The phone has also introduced a curved design which looks inspired by the latest iPhones but it does its job wonderfully by increasing the grip of the surface of the device.

A big miss about this device is no water or dust protection. You will see robust dust and water protection even at devices priced as low as 20k and not having it in a 32k device can be very frustrating.

The operating system of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

As it is the case with most of the mobile vendors, Xiaomi also uses their own custom built skin over the stock Android. And for many of the Xiaomi fans, this is what played the pivotal role in the sudden rise of the Chinese company. The MIUI 9 which is the latest version of the OS can be downloaded over the air in the Mi Mix 2 which ships with an older version ( MIUI 8.5 ).

The MIUI is easy to use and there are tons of theme and icon packs available at your disposal. But what you will definitely miss if you have used other Android devices before is the app drawer. Also, there are a few bloatware installed here and there.

There are a few features you get when you use MIUI. There is a feature named Dual app which lets you run two instances of the same app in two windows. There is also an option to use the phone in a split-screen mode which is very useful. There is also an option to use two accounts in the same app which gives you a similar experience like the multiple window feature in Windows 10.

Xiaomi is pretty slow in updating the Android version and the Mi Mix 2 still runs in an outdated Android 7.1 Nougat. But it is rumored that an Android Oreo update is on its way and you can expect it around Q3 2018. However, updates of the MIUI is very much regular and you can expect new features or bug fixes every other week.

Touch and sensitivity of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The touchscreen works like a breeze in the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back and it recognizes you almost instantly. The other sensors also worked pretty well and we did not notice any lag or delay. All in all, using this device is a pleasing experience.

Performance of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a powerhouse when it comes about computing. The device uses a Snapdragon 835 soc which is arguably the best chipset available in the market. It has a total 8 cores and 4 of them are clocked at 2.45 GHz and the other cores are clocked at 1.9 GHz. All cores use a Kryo engine and top-notch performance is assured. The phone also packs an industry standard Adreno 540 GPU which can run most of your games smoothly.

The phone comes with an LPDDR4x Dual channel 6 GB or 8 GB RAM. This amount of RAM is ideal for heavy multitasking and you can expect to run almost 2 apps instantaneously in a multi-window mode. With this heavy specification, you can expect to run anything without a hiccup.

Other specs of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The battery of the Xiaomi is a disappointment given the price range. You only get a mere 3400 mAh battery which is okay for a casual user but for a heavy user, this phone is not going to run all day. However, you get a USB C port which ensures lightning-fast charging.

As it is common with Mi phones you get a hybrid sim slot. Both the sims are nano sim and you can either use two sims or a single sim and a micro-SD card.

The phone has a mammoth storage capacity of 256 GB which can be extended further using the Micro-SD card.

The price range of the Mi Mix 2

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is sold exclusively on Flipkart and you can get the 128 GB variant for Rs.32000. The phone is also available in the Mi India store and the pricing is similar.
