ASUS, the Taiwanese leader in smartphones and IT technology announced global debut of ZenFone Max Pro (M1) in presence of ASUS CEO Jerry Shen and COO Jerry Tsao at a grand press event in Delhi, India.

The ZenFone Max Pro packs a massive 5000mAh battery, a 15.2 cms (5.99) FHD+ Full View display and a dual-camera system into an amazingly compact metal body. It is powered by the fast and energy-efficient Qualcomm®Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform, with Adreno 509 graphics for enhanced responsiveness and outstanding gaming performance. ASUS VivoBook S15

A 15.6-inch laptop designed for those constantly on the go, featuring a 17.9mm profile and weighing just 1.7 kg. The ASUS VivoBook Series is renowned for offering outstanding value and performance, but the new VivoBook S Series pushes the boundaries to deliver levels of style and performance normally only found in higher-end laptops. The thin and lightweight VivoBook S is the latest and most stylish model in the VivoBook Series. It has a metallic Icicle Gold finish for a quality feel and features a NanoEdge display with a 7.8mm-slim bezel that provides a larger display area for more immersive viewing. This stylish laptop is powered by up to 8th Generation Intel® Core i7 processor with up to 16GB DDR4 memory and feature NVIDIA® MX150 graphics.

NanoEdge display for immersive viewing

ASUS VivoBook features a Full HD (1920 x 1280) display with 178° wide-view technology for astonishing visuals, even when viewed from extreme positions. It’s the first laptop in its class to feature the slim-bezel NanoEdge display — the bezel is just 7.8 mm thin and gives VivoBook S15 an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Simple yet stylish design
The compact ASUS VivoBook S15 measures just 361 x 243.5 x 17.9mm and weighs 1.7 kg. It’s perfect for those constantly on the go and easily fits into a messenger bag or backpack. It has an attractive Icicle Gold metallic finish for a premium look. For comfortable working in any lighting conditions, the notebook is equipped with an ergonomic backlit keyboard. An integrated fingerprint sensor offers extra security and allows easy one-touch, password-free login with Windows Hello.

Performance & multitasking

ASUS VivoBook S15 is powered by an 8th Generation quad-core Intel Core i7-8550U and i5-8250U  processor with up to 16GB DDR4 2133Hz memory for super-smooth multitasking performance and features NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 graphics. It has dual storage drives, with a 1TB hard disk drive (HDD) to give users ample space to store music and media libraries, and a 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) to reduce boot-up and app loading times.  The reversible USB Type-C (USB-C) port makes it easier to connect devices, with USB 3.1 Gen 1 providing superfast data transfer speeds — making it possible to transfer a 2GB movie to a USB drive in seconds. For maximum convenience and compatibility, ASUS VivoBook S15 also features one USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port, and Bluetooth® 4.2. Its dual-band 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi provides up to 6X-faster data speeds over the previous 802.11n standard.

ASUS VivoBook S15 laptops feature a Lithium polymer battery that offers up to 8 hours battery life and a 3x longer lifespan than standard Lithium-ion cylinder batteries. The new ASUS Battery Health Charging Technology prolongs battery lifespan, decreases battery expansion rate and helps ensures the battery stays in a good condition. Fast-charge technology also charges the battery to 60 percent in just 49 minutes. If a laptop is constantly plugged in and the battery stays at 98% to 100% of its maximum capacity for long periods, this will significantly decrease its lifespan and may cause it to expand physically.

The ASUS VivoBook S15 has two technologies that prevent this and extends the battery’s operational life:

  1. SuperBattery – A special battery preservation technology known as “SuperBattery” that gives it three times (3X) the battery lifespan of conventional laptop batteries. SuperBattery does this by intelligently monitoring and limiting the maximum charge that can be given to the battery cells. With SuperBattery, the ASUS VivoBook S15 can:
  • Achieve a total of over 900 charge cycles compared to 300 for a conventional notebook’s batteries
  • Rapidly charge the ASUS VivoBook S15 from 0 to 60% of the capacity in only 49 minutes.
  1. The Asus Battery Health Charging App – This allows users to manually set the Relative State of Charge (RSOC) to 60%, 80% or 100%. Limiting the laptop charging in this way helps to further increase its battery’s operational life.

ASUS Beyond The Edge’ also showcased ZenBook UX430, the thinnest ever ZenBook with discrete graphics. Weighing only 1.25kg, the Full HD 14” Windows 10 laptop features 7.18mm NanoEdge bezel providing an 80% screen to body ratio. Offering a 178-degree wide view with a matte non-reflective surface, ZenBook UX430 is powered by up to Intel 8th Generation Core i7 processor with the main memory of 16GB DDR4 (2133MHz) and up to 512 GB Storage. Offering a 9-hour long battery life & performance benefits of NVIDIA® GeForce® graphics up to MX150,  for work or entertainment, the ZenBook UX430 is best suited for people on-the-go who want to take more in less space!

  • ASUS VivoBook S15 will be available from October 01, 2017 across all online and offline retailer and partners at a starting price of INR 59,990/-
  • Asus Zenbook UX430 is available across all online and offline retailer and partners at a starting price of INR 74,990/

ASUS ROG G20CB : Specification and Review

Gaming is a sector that is ruling this digital age and has a high demand in the market. It is just a virtual world in which gamers are indulged in to complete a set of task to score points. It is not a productive task but it surely helps your mind to relax. But despite all the things, it needs a very good performance machine to run some high graphics game. ASUS has been a leader in the gaming sector with it ROG(Republic of Gamers) series of products. We recently got our hands on the new G20 CB Desktop PC which is like a compact beast. If I hadn’t lifted the thing at the time of unboxing, I would have underestimated the thing. Don’t judge a book by its cover – which is the perfect thing to say when it comes to G20 CB. So without further ado let us check out the ASUS ROG G20CB specification and do a quick review to more about it.

ASUS ROG G20CB : Specification and Review

ASUS has done a great job when it comes to design of G20 CB. The machine is quite compact and the form factor is just great. It has this rectangular crystal design which feels like it is carved from a rock and looks like a tower from the front. It is all plastic when it comes to the outer body. There is this power-grid like design on the front which may not look that impressive when the PC is off, but it is surely the best thing that can happen to a gamer. Apart from the sides, these lines are on all the edges. It lights up with different colors which can be controlled. These lights have their own behavior and will give different effects best when the music is on or when you are having a talk with someone on skype or hangout. There are different zones with 2 in the front and 1 in the bottom. The colors can be set according to your choice. The machine is surely heavy considering the size and it weighs 6.53 KG (14 Pounds) approximately. To give you a better idea about the size of the RIG, it is a 9.5-liter case.

Coming to the different ports present on the ASUS ROG G20CB. Starting with the front, it has 2 USB 3.0 ports along with microphone and earphone jack. The vertical optical disk drive is also on the front with power button. All these things are exactly on the vertical center axis of the RIG which separates the two light zones. On the back, it has a total of 6 USB ports consisting of 2 USB 3.1, 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. For internet connectivity, it has RJ45 port as LAN. Coming to the display ports, the RIG has 2 DVI ports and HDMI ports. Note that there is no VGA port that you find in other desktop PC so you can always use DVI to VGA converter. There are various audio ports on the back like speaker out, mic in, subwoofer, line in/out etc. All these things are built and carved perfectly in the chassis. Apart from that you also have inbuilt WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. The design and the connectivity options in ASUS ROG G20CB are just great and you won’t find any compromises done in that sector.

ASUS ROG G20CB : Specification and Review

i7 Processor clocked at 3.4 GHz

Let us get inside the body now. ASUS G20CB has an Intel H170 chipset with Intel core i7-6700 processor. It has 16 GB of DDR4 RAM(2133 MHz) by default which can be extended up to 64 GB. There are 2 slots available for RAM stick. The review unit I got had 32 GB of RAM. Now that is a massive amount of RAM to play some heavy games, endless multitasking, and running 2-3 desktops simultaneously with ease. Speaking about the storage it has 256 GB of SSD and 3 TB of HDD(mentioned on their website, I got it with 2 TB of storage). ASUS has done justice when it comes to storage and memory. Plus you get 100 GB of ASUS webstorage for 1 year. Coming to the crucial part that is graphics, it has the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. Now this graphic card handles a 4K screen like a piece of cake. You can also run a setup of 3 desktops together for gaming with G20CB. The performance is just great while playing games like GTA 5, WatchDogs, Call of Duty Ghosts, NFS Most Wanted, Crysis 3 etc. I got more than 60 FPS in most of the games played on this machine which is a sign of good performance. The multitasking on this machine is excellent because of the massive amount of RAM. The i7 processor does its best to process multiple threads together. It will give you 10% performance boost and 23% more efficiency if we compare it with 6th generation. The boot time is something similar to a setup box+ TV arrangement. The operating system that comes preinstalled with the device is Windows 10 Home. So with the quick boot on, it is just like pressing the power button waiting for 2-3 seconds and boom you are good to go. You can connect 4 displays at max with this machine, that is 3 for gaming and one standalone display for twitch streams.

ASUS ROG G20CB : Specification and Review

3 Display for gaming + 1 for settings

Now one of the best things about ASUS ROG G20CB is how silently the machine works even at high performance. ASUS has done a great job reducing the noise and the cooling system is also great. You won’t feel much of a heat if you keep the tower on your desk. The air intake is from the 1 cm wide channel at the bottom while the hot air is thrown out from the back(Graphic card exhaust) and the top(bundled with two fans, copper pipes – channeled properly). The lights actually make all the difference in the world, which you can change according to your mood. Even the audio level was shown visually via the LED lights while I was on a skype call. Same goes with the music rhythm. According to ASUS, GTX 1080 performs 50% better than GTX 980. In 4K you will get an average frame rate of 55 FPS. at highest graphics setting.

The ASUS ROG G20CB is all ready for the future. It comes equipped with technology that allows this machine to support VR gaming. It has plug-n-play feature for VR headsets that are driven by NVIDIA VRWorks. I didn’t get a chance to test this feature, but they promise to provide lowest latency rates and an amazing experience along with haptic feedback which makes gaming immersive. I cannot just wait to try on VR gaming which will somehow change the whole world of gaming.

ASUS ROG G20CB : Specification and Review

The sound output from the speakers and headphones is great because of SonicMaster. It has 5 preset modes – Warroom, Soundscape, Battlefield, Action, and Multimedia. Each having an altogether different experience with the audio settings. Gaming is something which is like 50% dependent on the audio and it can boost the experience of playing too. ASUS has built an app for the PC called Aegis which can help you monitor the system resource consumption. One has the option to set thresholds on temperature and voltage so that system can maintain the levels for optimum performance. Boost launcher will free up CPU and RAM resources to ensure smooth gameplay.

Overall ASUS ROG G20CB is a great machine to work & play with. It is specially made for people expecting hardcore gaming and graphics requirement. You can always do some video editing and run other heavy graphic software on this machine to get less rendering time with faster outputs. You also get keyboard and mouse with the RIG. The mouse is not that great but the keyboard is backlit along with volume control knob. Now the only drawback that you might see is price. You can always go ahead and assemble your own RIG which will be a cheaper and better option in terms of customizations. But if you look at the ready made machines, then ASUS ROG G20CB does give some serious performance output. Though if it would be me, then I would always go for assembling a RIG by myself. Hope you liked the review of ASUS G20CB ROG, tell me in the comments if you would go for this beast.

Where can you buy ASUS ROG G20CB?

It is available on Amazon for 2299$ approx. Make sure you check the specifications before you go ahead and buy this machine. In India, it is approximately priced at Rs. 1,70,000.

ASUS Zenfone 3s Max Featured

Is ASUS Zenfone 3s Max worth buying or not?

ASUS has launched a lot of phones in the new Zenfone 3 series. The Zenfone 3 brought some major changes in the design of the phone and even had fingerprint sensor in it. I would say that Zenfone 3 series was the best when we consider the royal design. ASUS has previously launched a phone focused on battery life that was Zenfone 3 Max. It had 4100 mAh of battery life. But I guess that wasn’t enough. So let us find out, is ASUS Zenfone 3s Max worth buying or not. Before we start, I would like to inform you that I have used this phone for like 10 days and I am going to share my experience with you.

Is ASUS Zenfone 3s Max worth buying or not?

ASUS Zenfone 3s Max has a brushed metal aluminum finish on the back with a single antenna line which actually ruins the look a bit. Despite the massive battery the phone weighs only 175 g. It does look a bit heavier if you are used to using lightweight smartphones. The button placement is almost the standard one with micro-USB port on the bottom along with the speaker grills. On the right are the volume rockers along with the power button. The SIM tray is on the left while the 3.5 mm jack is on the top. This time the fingerprint sensor is placed on the physical home-screen button which takes some time to adjust. One now needs to press the home button in order to wake the phone and unlock it simultaneously which is similar to what Samsung and other brands have on their phones. Overall the phone has a premium look especially with the gold color.

Zenfone 3s max comes with a 5.2-inch IPS HD display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. It has the 2.5D contoured glass with no Gorilla glass protection. The display is bright but the quality could have been improved. The viewing angles on the phone are great. The device can be used with one hand but is a bit slippery on the back. The display on the phone could have been improved to a full HD display.

Zenfone 3s Max is not that good when it comes to performance. Though it is the third phone in the Max series, we don’t see any significant improvement in the performance. It runs on the MediaTek MT6750 chipset with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The device has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM. On the GPU side, it has Mali-T860 processor. The Zenfone 3s Max scores low on the benchmark tests. For the AnTuTu test it managed to get a score of 39444, while on the GeekBench test the single core score was only 591 and the multi-core was 2412 which is quite low. Many times you cannot judge a phone based on benchmarking test. In normal use the phone performs good. As for the gaming performance, surprising the phone ran heavy graphics game like N.O.V.A. 3 very well. This is due to the fact that this is an HD display, so the GPU can handle anything that you throw at it. Overall the performance is good when it comes to Zenfone 3s Max. But if you do plan to install Nova or any other launcher, that will slow down your normal usage by a little bit.

This is the first phone from ASUS that ships with Android Noughat which is the latest android version. ASUS has its Zen UI running on top of it which actually makes it difficult for you to notice the android version. I hope they plan to make the Zen UI a bit more similar to stock android experience and remove the bloatwares.

You are reading : Is ASUS Zenfone 3s Max worth buying or not?

ASUS Zenfone 3s Max comes with a 13 MP rear shooter with f/2.0 aperture. It has dual-tone LED flash with no laser assist for focusing. You can take some decent pictures in daylight but in some cases, the light exposure was a little bit more. The images could be a bit more sharper. The 8 MP front-facing camera is capable of taking some good selfies. You can record full HD videos at 30 fps with the rear camera. The low light pictures were good especially when you turn on the night mode. Overall the camera on the Zenfone Max 3s is average and is not something that I would recommend to a photographic enthusiast.

Camera Samples:

Connectivity and Sound

micro-USB, speaker grills

ASUS Zenfone 3s Max supports dual SIM 4G VoLTE. It has one micro SIM and one nano-SIM slot. It is a hybrid SIM slot so you can either insert a memory card or the second SIM. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB OTG. The fingerprint sensor on the phone is not that great when you change the alignment of the thumb. The speaker on the Zenfone 3s Max is pretty loud and impressive. If you remember the old china phones with loud speaker, just add some clarity and you have the speaker of Zenfone 3s Max.

This is the feature where Zenfone 3s Max kills every competitor. It has a massive 5000 mAh battery that runs for almost 1.5-2 days with mixed usage. In case of power use, the battery will last for 1 day with 4G usage included. The max series will never disappoint you when it comes to the battery. And I really think that it is one of the key features that every smartphone must have. Plus you also have reverse charging feature which makes your device a power bank and can charge other devices.

Zenfone 3S Max is priced at Rs.14,999 on Flipkart. It will also be available in offline stores. The price could have been a bit less to make it a good buy. For all those having high battery requirements can definitely go for this device. The phone is available in black and gold color.

The pros of Zenfone 3s Max are the mid-level performance, battery life and the audio output level. Camera performance is average. They can surely work on the Zen UI to give it a more stock android feel, so one can truly enjoy the features of different android upgrades. So any person with mid-level usage and more battery requirements can go for Zenfone 3s Max while others with camera requirements can consider its competitors. So I hope you now know the answer to the question is ASUS Zenfone 3s Max worth buying or not.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser hands on review

ASUS recently launched the Zenfone 3 series smartphones with some great changes if we compare it to the previous series. The phones are now slim and have a modern metallic look. One such device Zenfone 3 laser is focused on the camera segment with a pretty quick focusing technique. So let us do a Zenfone 3 Laser hands on review to find out more about it.

Zenfone 3 Laser hands on Review :

As you know the smartphones in the Zenfone 3 series have this amazing design. The rear has a brushed aluminum finish with antenna lines, while the front is all white with non-backlight capacitive buttons. The Zenfone 3 Laser is a lightweight phone which weighs only 150g and is 7.9mm thick. The fingerprint sensor is a bit vertically stretched exposing more area for your fingerprint. On the bottom we have the speaker grill, micro-USB port, and the primary microphone while on the top there is the 3.5 mm jack(sigh) with secondary noise cancellation microphone. The phone has a nice build but is a bit slippery to hold in your hand. Overall I like the design of the Zenfone 3 laser apart from the fact that the capacitive buttons are not backlit. I really want to see this in the lower budget smartphones.

Zenfone 3 Laser has a 5.5 inch full HD display with 2.5D corning gorilla glass. The contoured edges gives the phone a nice smooth grip. This time the phone has a bit wide display which is actually great, but you might need two hands to properly operate the phone. The brightness of the display can go up to 500 nits which means there will not be any issue while using the phone in the bright daylight. The viewing angles on this device are just great and the colors are sharp. The screen to body ratio for the Zenfone 3 Laser is 77%.

This is the part where the Zenfone 3 laser will confuse you. It comes with the Snapdragon 430 chipset with octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. It has this massive 4GB of RAM which is unusual to be seen in this price range. On the graphics end, it has the support of Adreno 505 GPU. Now when I put it to the benchmarking tests, the phone gets a low score. Like for the AnTuTu benchmarking test it managed to score around 44000. But when you actually use the smartphone and play some high graphic intensive games, the phone will surprise you. In the normal usage the phone was quite snappy and I didn’t experience any lag. The phone performed quite well with the mid-level games and even managed to run some of the high-end games. Though I won’t recommend this device for intensive gamers. But the phone did surprise me with the performance and we don’t expect any less with this price range. The Snapdragon 430 chipset also helps in keeping the power efficiency to the optimum level. On the software side the phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the ASUS ZenUI on top of it. The real time clock-weather widget on the lock screen is just amazing. They have some great themes added in their store too which can be used to customize the look and feel of the software.

Well the Zenfone 3 Laser is all about the camera. It has a 13 MP rear auto-focus camera with f/2.0 aperture Sony lens. As for the flash it has dual tone LED flash with 0.03s laser auto-focus. The focusing is indeed fast and pretty accurate. For all those having shaky hands, the device is equipped with 3-axis Electronic Image Stabilizer for shooting stable videos. There are many camera modes available to play with. The phone has 8 MP front facing cameras that is capable of taking decent selfies. For all the people crazy about taking great selfies can use the beautification feature. Low light pictures also come out to be great with this camera.

Sound and Connectivity

ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser has this 5-magnet construction with metal voice coil for the speaker setup. I would say that the sound from the device is at the mid-level and is clear even at higher volume. There are different audio modes like the movie mode, gaming mode, music mode, smart mode etc. The connectivity options in this phone include Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, and yes it comes with USB OTG support. It supports dual SIM with hybrid memory card slot. For all the JIO users, yes it has 4G VoLTE support – good news. As for the storage is concerned it has 32 GB of ROM out of which 24 GB is user available.

Zenfone 3 Laser has a 3000 mAh battery that can easily last for the whole day with intensive 4G usage. Even if this phone is not a Max variant, the battery on Zenfone 3 Laser is quite amazing.  As on the paper, it can last up to 20 hrs on 3G talktime, up to 15 hrs for Wifi Web browsing, and up to 12 hrs of video playback.

Price and availability

The price of Zenfone 3 Laser for the 32 GB variant is 16,999 INR on Flipkart. It is available in two color variants viz. Sand Gold and Glacier Silver.

So this was the Zenfone 3 Laser hands on review. For those of you who needs a good camera can go for Zenfone 3 Laser. Also for a user having mid-level usage who requires light weight phone with large screen and good battery life can opt for this smartphone. While others can have a look at some of its competitors like Xiaomi Mi Max, Lenovo Z2 Plus or Moto M. ASUS can now actually reduce their price by a little bit to destroy its competitors and stand a better chance.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Max full review – ZC553KL

Smartphones manufactured nowadays mostly focus on performance or camera, but the one key factor everyone forgets is the battery life. ASUS recently announced the new Zenfone 3 Max series with 2 variants. The first model ZC520KL has a lower config and a 5.2-inch screen while the latest one i.e. ZC553KL comes with better specification and 5.5 inch full HD display. This device is not for someone who expects very high performance or high-end gaming, but for those who wants their phone to last easily for 1 or more days. So let us do the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max full review and find out if it’s worth the buy.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Max full review - ZC553KL

Zenfone 3 Max ZC553KL

ASUS Zenfone 3 Max full review – ZC553KL

Please note that here on after, if I am referring to Zenfone 3 then it is for the variant ZC553KL and not the ZC520KL unless until specified.

The Zenfone 3 Max comes with this new sleek metallic design and rounded edges with a flat back. The placement of buttons is pretty standard and we have a 3.5mm audio jack too. With the Zenfone 3 Max we get a normal micro USB port and not the type-C. The fingerprint sensor is on the back with the camera, LED flash and laser auto-focus. There has been a lot of improvements in the design and the new one gives the phone a premium look. Despite having this huge battery inside, the phone doesn’t feel that bulky but is a bit slippery to hold. Three capacitive buttons are still at the bottom with no backlight and the ASUS logo is present on the back. The phone weighs approx to 175 g and is 8.3 mm in thickness.

Zenfone 3 Max has a 5.5 inch full HD IPS display which looks great and you can easily notice the upgrade. For the protection, it has an oleophobic coating on the screen to prevent fingerprint/smudges to a great extent. The bezels on the edges are pretty thin.

Zenfone 3 Max comes with a Snapdragon 430 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. It has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB by sacrificing one SIM slot. For the graphic support, it has Adreno 505 GPU which is capable of running some mid-graphic games. I would say the phone is not the best when it comes to performance. For the everyday use if you are someone who uses multiple apps at the same time, then I would recommend clearing out recent apps or giving it a performance boost every now and then to prevent lagging. I don’t get the reason why ASUS chose to use snapdragon 430 in its latest smartphone. Though the phone doesn’t lag frequently and performs fairly good for normal usage. The AnTuTu score for the device came out to be somewhere around 44240.

ZC553KL comes with a 16 MP rear shooter with dual-tone LED flash and laser auto-focus while on the front you have 8 MP camera. The aperture for the rear lens is F2.0 while on the front it is F2.2. As always the camera app comes with various modes like HDR, beautification, Low-Light, Super-resolution etc. Pictures taken indoors or in low light condition comes with a little bit of noise while the camera does a great job outdoors. The good thing about ASUS camera app is we have the functionality of switching to manual mode and tinkering with more advanced settings like ISO, taking control of shutter, manual focusing etc. For the video recording, the camera of Zenfone 3 Max is capable of recording full HD videos at 30fps. It has 3-axis EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization) and you can also take pictures while recording video.

Connectivity and Sound

Speaker, micro-USB

Speaker, micro-USB

Zenfone 3 Max comes with a Dual SIM hybrid support i.e. you can either insert memory card or the second SIM. The first SIM slot is Micro and the second one supports nano-SIM. Both the slot supports 4G/3G/2G but only one of them can use 4G/3G at a time. The company says the phone has VoLTE support but the review device on which I tested was not supporting VoLTE(may be some software bug). Other connectivity features include Wifi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS(BDS now supported), and USB OTG support. The audio level and quality from the speakers is good and the ringtone is audible from the adjacent room. Calling experience and noise cancellation using Zenfone 3 Max was great.

Here comes the key feature of this device i.e. the battery life. Zenfone 3 Max comes with a 4100mAh super-powerful battery. The battery life on this device will impress everyone who uses the device. For me with complete 4G internet usage, intense multi-tasking, a bit of gaming, and a lot of calling, the phone easily lasted for 1.5 days. If you are a normal user then you can easily use the device for 2 days with single charge. And for intense gamers and movie watching people, the phone will last for like 1 day. I even managed to spend my day with a 30% charge. I just don’t know what will happen when I shift to power saving mode. This is the ideal battery life which I expect from any new upcoming smartphones. Despite of having such a huge battery the design is still stylish and the phone is slim. The phone doesn’t support fast charging and takes around 2.5-3 hrs for full charge.

Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL) is priced for Rs.17,999 and is available in 3 color variants viz. Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver, Rose Pink, & Sand Gold. I would say that the phone is priced a bit on the higher end considering the performance. But if you have a look at all the features then it may justify the price. The box contents include the device itself, 5V 2A charger, USB cable, USB OTG cable, SIM ejector pin, warranty card and user manual.

Summarizing the features, Zenfone 3 Max has an excellent design, build, and battery. The camera is good while the average performance earns the device some negative rating. Overall for someone having mid-level usage with a lot of battery requirement should go for this device. While those expecting an excellent camera or high-end gaming should consider some of the other phones in this budget. For the camera, there are a few competitors like Vivo V5 and Oppo F1s. So this was the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max full review, if you have any doubts please post them in the comment section below. Share this on social media if you like the review.

Is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying? Full Review

ASUS has launched some new phones in the Zenfone 3 series which are priced quite higher than the previous ones. The Zenfone 3 comes with an all new design, some camera improvements along with other things. One thing I can tell you that they have made some real improvements in all the aspects. Though the sudden increase in the price will surely confuse the users. So today we will find out, is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying or not by doing its full review.

Is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying? Full Review

There are actually 2 variants of the Zenfone 3 viz. ZE520KL and ZE552KL with different specifications. The one which we received for the review was the ZE552KL with 5.5 inch screen and higher specs.

Is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying?

The one thing that changed for good is the design. ASUS phones are finally sleek with gorilla glass 3 on both the sides. Now remember this, the phone is very slippery because of the glass back and it is not recommended that you keep the phone on the lap. On the rear side, the phone has the concentric circle design with aluminium alloy frame on the edges. The power button and volume rockers are on the right with sim card tray on the left. On the bottom there is the USB type C port with speaker and primary microphone, while the 3.5 mm audio jack is on the top. The most worrying thing that you might think in the design is the protruding 6 element camera at the back. It may look like the camera lens might break while accidentally dropping the phone. But it has metal edges with sapphire glass coating to protect the camera lens. ASUS has gone differently when it comes to the traditional circle or square design of fingerprint sensor. Zenfone 3 has an elongated rectangle-shaped fingerprint sensor which works just great. Overall I am very happy with the new design of Zenfone 3.

Is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying?

The ZE520KL comes with 5.2 inch full HD IPS+ display and the ZE552KL has a larger screen size of 5.5 inch with same specs. The phone is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 as stated before. The quality of display is improved if we compare it to the previous Zenfone and it looks quite elegant now. The only issues is that, Zenfone 3 still doesn’t have backlight on the three touch capacitive buttons.

Zenfone 3 comes with Snapdragon 625 octa-core A53 processor clocked at 2 GHz. Due to the 14nm technology the processor consumes lot less power and I have tested it to find that its true. The ZE520KL has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM while the ZE552KL has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM. Both the devices have hybrid slots for expandable storage that goes up to 2 TB but you will have to sacrifice SIM 2 to expand storage. This is I guess the first time ASUS has kept a hybrid slot for SIM or Memory card. Coming to the graphics, Zenfone 3 comes with Adreno 506 GPU. I tried playing most of the heavy games like Mortal Kombat X, Asphalt 8, N.O.V.A. 3 etc and the phone did ran them well. The only issue I faced was with Assassins Creed Unity where there were some frame drops. The AnTuTu benchmark score came out to be 62447. Now the best thing about Zenfone 3 is that the phone didn’t heat up even after doing half n hour of gaming despite the fact that it has glass back. If you use 4G+GPS+Heavy Game+Sunlight then it might get heat up, but that is totally bearable. I was very pleased with the hardware and software optimization that ASUS has done excellently with Zenfone 3. For the software part, Zenfone 3 comes with Android 6.0 with Zen UI 3.0 on the top. It has many preinstalled apps that you can uninstall or disable if not in use. Only one thing to remember is disable apps from auto-start manager to avoid background data usage and increase the battery life significantly.

This is one of the key feature of the phone in which the improvement is the most. Zenfone 3 comes with 16MP Sony Exmor RS IMX298 6-element largan lens shooter with dual-tone LED flash.  It has ‘tritech’ autofocus which uses 2nd generation laser, phase detection and conventional contrast detection that only takes 0.03 seconds to focus. Well I can confirm that the autofocusing works great on this device. The next key feature is OIS(optical image stabilization) for image and EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization) for video which helps a lot to shoot videos while moving. Due to 4-axis OIS the images are quite steady even with shaky hands. The depth of field effect is added to almost every pic you capture using Zenfone 3 and you can notice that easily when you try to focus on a particular object or take a macro shot. The noise in the picture in a low light environment is reduced significantly. Zenfone 3’s camera is capable of recording 4K(3840×2160) videos. Just above the LED flash, there is a color correction sensor. The manual mode is also great for passionate photographers to experiment with the device. The front shooter is of 8MP which works fine to take selfies. Overall the camera of Zenfone 3 is something that will surely impress you.

Connectivity and Sound

Zenfone 3 has hybrid dual SIM(Micro SIM + Nano SIM/Memory card) 4G VoLTE support along with Wifi(2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS. The type C port will support USB OTG. For the audio, it has 5 magnet speaker along with NXP smart amplifier which manages to produce decent clear sound output.

ZE520KL has a 2650mAh battery while the ZE552KL comes with a 3000mAh battery. I have tested battery performance for ZE552KL and it did amaze me. On 4G and heavy usage I could more than half a day, and with moderate usage I still had some juice left at the end of the day. The optimization done did work to extend the battery life of Zenfone 3.

Pricing and Availability

ZE520KL is priced at 21,999 INR and ZE552KL is available for Rs.27,999. There are 3 color variants for Zenfone 3 viz. shimmer gold, sapphire black and moonlight white. Shimmer gold doesn’t looks good at all at least to me. The phone is available officially on Flipkart.

So to answer the final question i.e. is ASUS Zenfone 3 worth buying? It is placed in a whole another higher price segment this time. If we speak about the improvements, then yes the device has improved in almost all features. But still I feel that the price is not at all competitive and ASUS should have priced it smartly. If you ask me that whether you should go for the Zenfone 3 or not, then I would say you can go for ZE520KL for 21,999 INR but instead of buying ZE550KL for 27,999 you can go with OnePlus 3 anytime. Though Zenfone 3 has come a lot closer to its competitors, the initial mindset of budget pricing will take some time to adapt in the market.

ASUS RT-AC88U router

ASUS RT-AC88U router specifications and review

High-speed internet mainly via Wifi is what people nowadays thrive on. All the apps are just feeding on Internet choking all the bandwidth. May it be office or home there is a huge amount of data flowing through the router. Now the main problem is faced by the network engineer who’s sole job is to keep the network running. A good router is what he needs in this kind of situation which will make his task easier. ASUS has got a router that will be great to handle this kind of traffic. So today I will tell you about ASUS RT-AC88U router specifications and review it in detail. Let me tell you that it is a dual band gigabit router. Let us find out what it means.

ASUS RT-AC88U router specifications and review

What is Dual Band Router?

Dual band is the new feature that was introduced with new ‘ac‘ standard. The normal home router only has 2.4GHz Wifi channel on which most of your devices work. Dual band means having a 5GHz channel along with 2.4Ghz. The new channel has got more bandwidth and it creates a data stream with the devices. In simple terms good bandwidth distribution and high speed of data exchange. You will get good speed on all devices no matter how many devices you connect. Previous I had like 12 devices connected on my triple antenna tplink router. Most of the time the router would like just hang and stopped working. But with this router it can easily handle 12+ devices.

So enough with the theory of dual band, let’s go ahead and unbox this monstrous router and check out the specifications. You can watch the video of unboxing, do like and comment your thoughts on it.

Unboxing of ASUS RT-AC88U/ AC3100 dualband gigabit router:

ASUS RT-AC88U router specifications and review

ASUS RT-AC88U router specifications and review

Back view

The router comes with this amazing monstrous looking design. It has 4 antennas which looks just great with those red notches. The two antennas are attached on the back and the other two on left and right. The size of router is almost the double or triple if we compare it with the normal home router. On the top we have some LED indicators for power, Wifi, WAN, ethernet, WPS and Internet. On the front-left there is the USB 3.0 slot inside a small compartment. On the front-right there are two buttons one to toggle Wifi and the other one is to toggle the top LEDs. Moving on to the back we have the power push button, 12V DC-In jack, WAN input port, the 8 gigabit high speed ethernet ports, the WPS button and lastly the reset button. The router design lacks in only one thing i.e. some red LEDs. It would have been just great if there was like a red light coming out from the top and side air vents. I really expected that when I first saw the router box.

Well you need to know this that the router is also kind of a small PC processing all our data and doing some geeky stuff. The ASUS RT-AC88U comes with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and 512 MB of RAM, 128 MB of flash storage. It takes almost 2 mins for the router to boot up with all its Wifi and WAN running. There is also lot of heat produced so you need to make sure that you keep the router on a flat surface and not covering the air vent.

As I told you about the dual band and 4 antennas, that all helps the router to manage traffic in a better way which is its specialty. But remember if you have an ac router already, then you wont get like better speed and all. Before upgrading to this one, make sure that you really have a traffic issue or else it will be of not much use. Yes this router will help you for Gaming and 4K streaming. Time to check out all the features.

For setting up the router you can always use the quick setup option and the default IP is with username – admin and password – admin. The router has some excellent features and different software tool that comes with it. Listed below are the main features:

  • Dual band – 2.4GHz and 5GHz
  • Easy blocking of internet access, time scheduling, and Mac IP binding as per client
  • Guest network – For friends to access the internet and not the LAN network
  • AiProtection – Security against malicious websites, infected device prevention
  • Parental Control – Blocking access based on keywords, URL, time scheduling
  • Adaptive QoS – Bandwidth Monitor for each client, web history (catches everything that passes through)
  • Bandwidth limiter with priority scheduler
  • Game Boost – WTFast(Gamer private network) support to reduce the latency, Lan Boost
  • Traffic analyzer – Shows data consumption for each app for each client according to date. Amazing tool for analyzing the bandwidth usage but didn’t work at my place for some reason may be a bug in the firmware.
  • Traffic Monitor – Monitor the traffic on both Wifi Channels and ethernet ports
  • USB application – Yes we have USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 where you can connect external hard drives, USB drive, printer, USB dongle and even an Android phone for internet sharing. Share the disk online or on the network make media servers or share printer over the network.
Though what I personally feel is the data transfer speed when you connect a device using USB is very slow. It needs a lot of work to make sure that the media files from USB device can be streamed on the network.
  • Smart remote access and smart sync are some other features to sync the data to ASUS webstorage.
  • DMZ can always redirect all the incoming traffic to one machine elimiating the need of port forwarding every time you want to access some application remotely.
  • Hardware Firewall has DoS protection which can again filter packets based on keywords or URL
  • Operation Mode – Wireless router mode, repeater mode, access point mode, and Media bridge
  • Dual WAN – This is a cool feature ensuring that your internet is working even if the primary WAN fails. Yes that means you can have two connections and in case the first one fails, second one will be used as the backup option.
  • Mobile APP available for Android and iOS

These are like all the features of the ASUS RT-AC88U gaming router. You can just head on to WTFast website and download their software to boost the online gaming speed and decrease latency.

Pricing and availability

Well I know you are all happy with features and device of this device. But here is the part where it may decrease the amount of happiness as this router is priced at 300$ approx. It is available on Amazon for 274$. Yeah the router is overpriced and you need to think before you upgrade.

Overall I liked the design and the performance of this router. On the software side the bugs like traffic analyzer and traffic limiter should be fixed as this was totally not expected with the latest firmware. If you have a high budget and you don’t already own a ‘ac‘ router then definitely go for this router as it will not disappoint you. The review device is gone and I am feeling the void from now on. So this were the ASUS RT-AC88U specifications and review in complete detail with unboxing. Let me know if you have any doubts about this router or may be its feature in the comments section below.
